Never start a fire you can't control...
Connor Bannon is supposed to be dead. Dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs, he's spent the last two years working as a street enforcer in Brooklyn for his cousin's crime ring. Through a twist of fate, he's now in Chicago, working undercover to bust criminals. But when a cute little arsonist joins the team-all combat boots, tiny jean shorts, and hot-pink hair-Connor's notorious iron control slips.
Erin "she's getting away" O'Dea knows two things. She hates authority. And... Nope, that's it. When she's forced to operate on the "right" side of the law, her fear of being confined and controlled blazes to the surface. The last thing she expects is a control freak like Connor to soothe her when she needs it most. Worse, something behind the sexy ex-soldier's eyes ignites a dangerous inferno of desire. One that invites Erin to play with fire. And one that could get them both killed...

UP IN SMOKE TEASER FOR REVEAL 2.jpg
sizzling excerpt tq.png
As if her thoughts had made him appear, Connor strode into the courthouse. Her pulse started beating double time, her stomach muscles tightening. Good Lord, the man was a fucking panty dropper. She’d only been away from him for a few hours and it felt like years since she’d experienced his presence. In jeans and a fitted gray T-shirt that molded to his muscles like her hands itched to do, he personified confidence and authority. Hot, rugged male. His gaze connected with hers immediately and darkened. She thought back to that morning when he’d dressed in the early morning light, his abs flexing as he pulled the shirt over his head. His erection barely contained by his boxers. She’d never been one to beg for anything, but she’d been seconds from offering him her mouth. Pleading for the privilege of sucking him off.
Conner shook his head at her with a sexy half smile on his face, as if he could read her thoughts across the room. He stopped at the metal detector and walked through after the security guard beckoned him forward. When the woman grabbed her wand and instructed him to raise his hands in the air, something ugly reared its head deep inside her. The detector hadn’t even beeped. There was no reason for the personal service. When the woman smiled at Connor and ran a hand down her ponytail, Erin propelled herself forward, boots echoing on the polished marble.
Erin hissed as she drew even with the guard. “If you’re done feeling up my boyfriend, I’d love a turn. We were in a rush this morning.”
The guard dropped the wand, letting it dangle near her thigh. “Did you just hiss at me?”
Erin hissed again.
“Okay.” Connor stepped between them, winking down at her. “We should go. Don’t want to keep the clerk waiting.”
Appreciation spread in her belly like honey. He hadn’t chided her for her behavior or apologized to the woman on her behalf. Instead he’d given the impression they were on their way to get married, appeasing her jealousy in one fell swoop. “That’s right.” She sauntered toward the elevator. “There’s vows to be exchanged. Rings to put on fingers. Shit like that.”
She glanced behind her to find Connor staring at her ass as she walked, so she put a little swing in her hips and savored his groan. Damn. She’d definitely never had this much fun at a courthouse.
A moment later, she and Connor stepped into an empty elevator. She hit the button for the top floor even though the clerk was on the first, and leaned back against the wall, looking up at him through her eyelashes. “How was your morning, baby? Was it worth leaving me in bed, all hot and bothered for you?”
“Fuck no, it wasn’t.” He crooked a big finger at her. “Climb on up here.”

When I need my perfect hero fix I simply read Tessa Bailey. This was one more exemplary example of what I love in my male leading men. Totally over the top possessive and 100% loyal. There is no one better at giving us a dirty talker. Tessa wins hands down every time.

Connor was intensely and perfectly man personified. From his constant protective nature to his sexy dominance, I was seduced. I felt his hopelessness over Erin tortured past and was feeling so much rage with him for her.

The way this man gave her complete unconditional acceptance was beyond beautiful. He embodied all that I look for in my book boyfriends. A true hero in the aspect that he held back is own needs, his own desires for her and in that process he gave her the reigns and he still found the sweetest control ... to be able to give that control to her was a power he never had before.

Erin was definitely a very intense and deeply troubled heroine. To be able to survive and function after he past was just extraordinary. A day to Erin was counted by the seconds and minutes, steps and doors, windows and exits.

I loved her quirky brave persona and I liked her from the start.  She couldn't stay away from Connor even though she had the fear that raced along side the need and the want.

I adored how patient he was and the way Erin grew stronger every day he surrounded her with walls of freedom and love to release her was just beautiful.
Up in Smoke had profound and scorching love scenes that were balanced and emotional, adding a precious  depth to the story. Each character added intrigue and excitement with just the right amount of mystery. I simply can't get enough of this author and can't wait for the next sizzler she writes.

Thank you for your interest in my books! I'm Tessa and I live in the crazy, loud, overcrowded borough of Brooklyn, New York. I love it here. This city is a constant source of inspiration, which is why I've decided to set my most recent books in the Line of Duty Series here.

I moved to New York when I was eighteen, the day after I graduated high school. Threw my suitcase in the back of a Chevrolet Cavalier and drove across the country to find my adventure. I'm still finding it, little by little.Thank you for being a part of it.

4 heart-breaking stars

Holy WOW. I was not prepared, at all, for William and Maggie’s love story. I've read and enjoyed melancholy romances before, but this was by far the most somber read…EVER. I had no clue jumping in that it involved a victim of abuse – and was absolutely taken aback by the severity of it. My poor, sweet Maggie. Her woes brought me to cry ugly tears.

Her circumstances caused my blood to boil. I was so consumed with RAGE and ANGER; I wanted nothing more than to strangle her abuser. This was by no means a lighthearted read, but one that twisted and turned my feelings.

This is not a romance I will soon forget. It was not an “enjoyable” read for me per se, but an extreme heart wrenching experience that caused my emotions to collide. The way in which A.L. Jackson penned this story, I really felt each of the main character’s anguish. William and Maggie’s love and life experiences were difficult to take.  Envisioning Maggie’s horrific life and the extreme cruelty towards her, broke my heart into pieces and infuriated me beyond reason. Her character was so gentle and kind, for most of the read, I was wishing for her to finally find the peace and happiness she so deserved.

William…I liked his character, but his wallowing in self-pity and the way his six-year absence negatively affected so many lives, exasperated me. Yeah, I felt bad that Maggie crushed his heart, but it ticked me off that he gave up on her so easily and took his sweet time to fight and win her back.

 And Troy, the sick bastard…
I don’t think I’ve EVER despised a character more than him. He was despicable. His reign of terror and abuse towards Maggie shredded me.

All in all, When We Collide was a good read, but also very dark, intense and emotionally draining. That being said, I would have liked more insight into William and Maggie’s relationship beginnings. The flashbacks gave me an “insta-romance” feel, and for them to share such a great and powerful love, I wanted more time spent diving deeper into their love affair.  This is not for the faint of heart, but a good recommendation for readers who enjoy tales filled with turmoil and angst.

A.L. Jackson is the New York Times bestselling author of contemporary and new adult romance.

She first found a love for writing during her days as a young mother and college student.  She filled the journals she carried with short stories and poems used as an emotional outlet for the difficulties and joys she found in day-to-day life.

Years later, she shared a short story she’d been working on with her two closest friends and, with their encouragement, this story became her first full length novel. A.L. now spends her days writing in Southern Arizona where she lives with her husband and three children.

I’m at my usual table eating my usual Nutella-filled chocolate croissant and sipping English breakfast tea with milk and two sugars. I look down at my favorite navy Prada suit paired with my nude colored Jimmy Choos. I smooth over my hair that, thanks to my useless alarm clock, I didn’t have time to deal with this morning; therefore, it’s pulled back. But I made it, I’m here and I wait. I wait almost every single day. I’ve only missed seeing them while I moved to London for a few years, but other than that—rain, snow, or shine—I’m always here.

The staff at Joanna’s restaurant are incredible; I have been coming here almost every day for seven years and they just leave me to my business. They don’t ask me what I want, they already know, they just nod their hello and bring me my usual. I sit in my customary tiny table by the window as I wait to see him leave his house. I have the perfect view of his brownstone from this angle. He sometimes looks up toward the corner restaurant before getting into his car, almost as if he senses me watching him.

I look down at my watch; it’s almost half past seven and he still hasn’t left his house. I finish my flaky brioche and wonder for the millionth time how they fucking get all that velvety smooth chocolate inside without marring the pastry, must be a syringe, I conclude as I devour the last bite and look out the window just in time to see his black car pull up. A minute later, he finally emerges, clean-shaven and hair still slightly damp. I inhale as if I’m standing right next to him. The three of them get into the back of his chauffeured SUV and drive off.
Time’s up! I think sadly to myself and whisper “See you tomorrow, JJ,” to no one in particular.
