Blog Tour~Review~Giveaway: The Slow Burn (Moonlight and Motor Oil #2) by Kristen Ashley @KristenAshley68

Tobias Gamble knew from a young age precisely the kind of woman he was going to make his. She was not going to be like his mother. She was going to be like the mother he claimed. In other words, she was going to be just right.

And when Toby returns to his hometown of Matlock, Kentucky and claps eyes on Adeline Forrester, he knows she’s the one. The problem is, his brother Johnny has a new girlfriend. And Addie is her sister. Last, Toby would do nothing to hurt Johnny’s chance at happiness.

Toby hangs around town to get to know the woman Johnny fell in love with. He also hangs around to get to know Addie. But he’s fallen hard, and he knows the best thing for him—and Addie—is for him to leave.

Addie Forrester is thrilled her sister Eliza found a good, solid man. Johnny Gamble is the salt of the earth. The best guy in the world.

The best except for his brother, Toby.

Toby doesn’t know it, but Addie’s fallen hard too. He’s perfect, except for the fact that he’s hands off and it’s torture, being friends with Toby when she wants so much more. Addie also has a lot on her mind. She’s got bills to pay, her young son needs food, Christmas is coming and her job at the grocery store just isn’t cutting it.

Toby is steering clear of Addie. Addie is steering clear of Toby. But everyone around them knows this is the slow burn. Because just like Eliza and Johnny, Addie and Toby were made for each other.

Since their dramatic introduction in The Hookup, Tobias Gamble and Adeline Forrester haunted me. I wanted more from these characters, and I just knew that as a couple, their chemistry would be explosive. It certainly was. Even though their sexual attraction was instantaneous, the journey from friends to lovers was not only complicated but a delicious slow burning inferno. So happy to revisit Matlock, Kentucky where this author once again overwhelmed me with another heartwarming emotional tale. If you're craving a contemporary romance with all "the feels" from the golden age of KA, look no further. With a sizzling hot story-line and a cast of endearing characters, Kristen Ashley delivered a fantastic read reminiscent of her earlier works with The Slow Burn.
Tenacious, sassy and loving, the wild-child Adeline became one of my favorite heroines. A single mom who struggled financially, she faced each obstacle with incredible strength and determination. Seeing her exhaustion from juggling a low paying job as a cashier and crafting homemade greeting cards for extra cash, to trying her best to provide for Brooks, tugged at my heartstrings. I adored and admired everything about Addie, especially her witty sense of humor despite her difficult circumstances. Proud to a fault, she stubbornly refused to burden others with her troubles, striving to be as strong as her late mother.
But it was an eye-opening confrontation with the equally obstinate Toby, the man she was secretly attracted to, that changed her life for the better.

I fell hard for the rambling man and former womanizer known as "Take 'Em and Leave "Em" Toby." He was edgy, growly, controlling, excessively broody and protective ~ A bearded hottie with a huge heart who fiercely loved his family. He was unyielding at first, hiding his true feelings from Addie for the sake of their friendship and his brother Johnny's relationship with Izzy (Addie's older sister). But his heart eventually won that battle, and together this couple's passion was beyond scorching.

His intense love, dedication and the tender way he cared for his woman and her son melted me. The way they supported one another to resolve all issues, especially the baggage each carried from childhood, warmed my heart. Toby, in true KA Alpha style, had some asshole-ish moments that ticked me off, but I quickly forgave his transgressions seeing the sincere way he made amends. All-in-all, he was the perfect KA hero, with a gentler side, that I completely adored.

The Slow Burn was a seductive and sweet romance that had me laughing and swooning from beginning to end. Aside from savoring Toby and Addie’s passionate relationship, giggling over Brooks’ antics, and surviving the extremely emotional last few chapters, there were some notable secondary characters that I absolutely loved. The charming Dave, the larger than life Margot as well as beloved Daphne, Addie's deceased mother, left an incredible impression on me and made this read even more enjoyable. I will miss them all. As always, KA emphasizes the importance of family and bonds of friendship. The dynamics of these relationships were just as much a part of this story as this couple's journey.

In the end, another amazingly sexy novel from the one and only Kristen Ashley that I highly recommend. Also suggest if you haven't already, jump into Johnny and Izzy's love story featured in The Hookup, book one of the Moonlight and Motor Oil series.

The Hookup (Moonlight and Motor Oil #1)

 https://angelas-sizzling-pages.blogspot.com/2017/12/the-hookup-moonlight-and-motor-oil-1-by.html

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this publication

On Saturday morning, Toby was standing beside his fridge downing a bottle of water when it happened.
He’d gotten his run in and sweated out the beer and whisky he’d consumed at the local bar, On the Way Home (known as Home to townies) the night before.
And he knew he should be happy he at least got to drink a little of the bitter of that fight with Addie out of his mouth and then sweat it out the next morning before it happened.
He was actually surprised he didn’t get a visit at his barstool at Home last night.
Seeing his screen on his phone, which was sitting on the island counter, light up and what it said when it did, he really didn’t want to take the call.
But his father (not to mention Margot) taught him to deal with problems when they happened so you could lose the weight of them before that weight got too heavy and dragged you down.
With that in mind, he put the water down, nabbed his phone and took the call.
“Yo, Johnny.”
“Are you fuckin’ kidding me with that shit?” his brother replied.
Toby let out a long breath.
“‘Yo, Johnny.’ That’s what you’ve got to say to me when the whole town’s talkin’ about you shouting in Addie’s face on the fuckin’ street yesterday?” his brother demanded.
“Johnny, listen—”
And just so you know the entire reason I’m pissed as fuck at you, I had to hear that shit from someone else, not my brother who had a fuckin’ fight with my woman’s sister on the goddamn street and then came back to the garage and worked right beside me for the next three hours and didn’t say dick.”
All right.
You know what?
He was done with this.
So he bit out, “Johnny, lay off.”
“Lay off?” That came low and even more ticked than his brother had already sounded.
“Yeah, lay the fuck off,” Toby returned.
“Have you lost your goddamned mind?”
“No, actually, I haven’t,” Toby gritted.
“What was it about?”
“That’s none of your business.”
“Wrong,” Johnny clipped. “When it comes to Eliza’s sister, it’s absolutely my business. When it comes to my kid brother, it’s my business. I cannot fuckin’ believe you got up in Addie’s shit and didn’t say dick to me. But I shouldn’t be surprised. That’s vintage Toby.”
Oh, hell no.
“Right, no,” Toby ground out. “We’re not doin’ this. You are not goin’ there. I’ve eaten that shit for as long as I’m willin’ to eat it. This ends here.”
“Tobe—”
“No,” he interrupted. “I’m not you. Get over it. I’ve never been you. But I’ve been around for nearly thirty-three years so it’s time you got your head around it. And speakin’ of that, I’m nearly thirty-three fuckin’ years old, Johnny. It’s also time you quit treating me like I’m thirteen.”
Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing's changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Excerpt

A light sound takes me out of my own head. I look to my left, and what I see robs me of my breath. I stand taller, suddenly unable to remember my own thoughts. A profile of porcelain skin, a sharp nose, and—Jesus—a full red lip claim my attention. Hair the color of amber piled high on her head, soft tendrils frame her face. I want to let it down, comb my fingers through it, see if it’s as soft as it looks…and I keep looking, because it’s impossible not to.
The smooth lines of her nape are set in grace, my tongue already mapping the perfect path down her skin. My eyes keep going because there’s no stopping them now. Moving lower to the dress, the color is a deep red, the neckline plunging. Being six foot one has its advantages. Even from the side, I can see the dip of cleavage. I lick my lips, already begging for a taste, wanting to know if she’s as sweet as she looks. Then I continue on, because wild horses couldn’t drag me away. I need to see more.
Unfortunately, as far as skin goes, the rest is covered by the floor-length gown. Whoever she is, she’s stunning, and I can’t stop staring. She has pleasure and sin written all over her. I’m hard now. My body ready to do what is instinctual to me.
For the first time in…well, forever, I want to be reckless. I want to throw her over my shoulder and drag her to the nearest closet. Sift through all that red, lush fabric and find her pussy. Put my mouth there, sweep my tongue across her clit. Drag an orgasm out of her that makes her see stars, makes her see no one but me. I laugh under my breath because that would be a first.
As if she knows what I’m thinking, she turns my way, and I’m knocked on my ass. My first thought: I want to get down on my hands and knees and thank God for this gift from heaven. Jesus. If I thought she was gorgeous from the side, head-on, she’s exquisite. Her eyes are a moss green. No, no—that description will not do. Because that doesn’t begin to describe soft sage peppered with golden yellow flecks. They’re clear and…wait, vulnerable? Or…I don’t know, apprehensive? How can a creature so beautiful be so scared? The million-dollar question—or in my case, the billionaire-dollar question.
When I realize I’ve been staring too long, I force a word from my lips. Any word will do at this point. “Hello.”
Just brilliant, Jace.
“Hello,” she says back, almost reluctantly. “Can I help you with something?”
“Pardon me?”
She gestures with one hand, long fingernails painted red to match her dress. Red: it’s a bold color, feisty—daring, even. I wonder if she’s adventurous behind closed doors, if she likes to fuck on desks, up against walls. I wonder if she enjoys taking it in what I’m sure is a perfectly curved ass. I sure as hell want to find out. I’d relish the opportunity to have her mile-long legs wrapped around my waist, grinding on my cock.
“You were staring at me.”
And thinking salacious thoughts, but I won’t mention that.
“I was?” It comes out like a question when there is absolutely no doubt it’s the truth.
The corner of her mouth turns up, but it doesn’t match her eyes. What is that I see? I want to figure it out, and then I want to take it away for her.
“Did you have a question?”
“A question?” Did I even ask a question? Why is my brain not computing? I never waver, but this woman is throwing me off my game.
Maybe she can read my thoughts. Perhaps she knows the question inquiring minds want to know: How does she like to fuck?
I’ve been silent too long, imagining all the different ways I could bring her to orgasm, and now it looks like she’s holding back a laugh. I want to hear what her laugh sounds like. Is it high and melodic or low and raspy?
“Yes. Did you have one?”
I can feel the crease slash my forehead. “I’m…”
An idiot. Confused. Tongue-tied by your beauty.
Yeah, that’ll do.
Her eyebrows lift. “You’re…”
I clear my throat and step into my confidence once again. Then I edge closer, the scent of something floral floating under my nose. “Tongue-tied by your beauty.”
She actually laughs, and here I thought I was smoother than that. But hey, I made her laugh, so point for me.

EXCERPT:
What kind of jerk didn’t give back a person’s dog?
The PR man said he had personally given Corbett the message only a couple of hours after she’d called. As the days continued to pass with no word, Maggie grew increasingly frustrated and even angry.
Finally, she decided to take matters into her own hands. Kirby belonged with her and damned if she was going to let some immoral, spoiled, self-centered jerk who only pretended to be a nice guy for the public, get away with keeping her dog, even if he was an NHL player.
After making the decision to hunt down the dog-napper herself, she had watched the video segment again, this time watching for clues as to where he lived. They mentioned Hillsborough. Of course. Very high-class neighborhood. That narrowed it down quite a bit. He dropped the name of an Italian restaurant he frequented that was “within easy walking distance” of his house. That narrowed it even further. She printed a map of the area and marked a three-block radius out from that restaurant. They showed a few seconds of him walking away from his house with the dogs on a leash and she froze the video and took a picture of the view.
Then because he mentioned a team party he was hosting to watch the All-Star game, she decided to go to his house and accuse him of dog-napping in front of all his friends. With any luck, peer pressure would make him give up Kirby. Was it going to be horrid, shaming a Dragons player when for more than ten years she’d rooted for the team with all her heart as a hockey fan? Yes. Could she have gone to the media and exposed him the way Jade had suggested? Yes.
But what it all came down to was she thought he was morally despicable and she wanted to tell him so to his face. She wanted the satisfaction of taking her dog away from him personally.
It took her about fifteen minutes of search-cruising before she found his place. Looking toward downtown San Francisco, the view matched the photo.
As she parked her car, the realization hit her that she was about to barge in on what might be the entire Dragons hockey team. Before she’d arrived, all she’d focused on was getting Kirby back. She’d imagined herself going in and righteously claiming her dog. Her main emotion had been indignation. Now, a case of the jitters undermined her determination.
Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all.
She looked up at the spectacular two-story house. The sprawling property looked as if Arts and Crafts architecture and Japanese landscaping had a baby. Lush mature trees cast shade over mossy rocks and boulders. The wooden bridge leading to the front door crossed an actual pond, complete with brightly colored koi fish. As she looked around and the luxuriousness of the neighborhood sunk in, the jitters progressed into near-panic. She’d passed the Sierra Point friggin’ Yacht Club on her way, for Pete’s sake.
No. She would do this. Kirby was hers. Even if she couldn’t offer him posh digs like these, they belonged together. She’d had him since puppyhood. They had a bond that couldn’t and wouldn’t ever be broken. Even now, he was probably wishing he were home with her, cuddling on her old sofa watching reruns of Friends and eating microwave popcorn. She told herself the players were only people, like her. People with unusual, high-profile jobs and bodies like gods.
She went up to the front door where a sign said, “Come on in. Hope you brought beer.”
Gathering her courage, she knocked anyway.
No one answered. And it was kind of quiet. Maybe the party hadn’t started yet.
She tried the door and found it unlocked. Before entering, she took a picture of the sign, because if this devolved and the police were called, she wanted evidence that, technically, she was invited in.
“Hello?” she called hesitantly, crossing the threshold into the foyer.
The house was just as gorgeous on the inside as it was on the outside. She’d seen it on the video, but in person, it felt richer and more personal. A San Francisco Dragons player actually lived here. Spencer Corbett occasionally sat on that couch. He walked on this plush rug.
He—gulp—was standing right there, staring at her.

Have you ever had that feeling that you were being watched intensively? Well, I can feel eyes on me as I slowly walk towards the B&B I had checked into earlier. I don’t want to look around in case it’s Voss who has found me. Ugh! I would hate to have my experience in this city marred by a visit from him.
As I slowly move toward the B&B, I can see a man standing outside of it. The man looks very familiar. Yet I know that I do not know anyone in this city. As I get closer to him, his features become clearer, and I can see a big smile on his face. It couldn’t be! But as I could feel the pull toward him, I know it is him. My destined mate!
Not caring about what is happening around me, I start to run across the street to him. As I continue to look at him, I notice the smile disappear from his face. It’s the last thing I see before the black mist drowns out everything and I feel as though I am floating.
