Ruby Scott is months behind on rent and can’t seem to land a steady job. She has one chance to turn things around with a big audition. But instead of getting her big break, she gets sick as a dog and completely bombs it in the most humiliating fashion. All thanks to a mysterious, gorgeous guy who kissed—and then coughed on—her at a party the night before.

Luckily, her best friend might have found the perfect opportunity; a job staying at the lavish penthouse apartment of hotel magnate Bancroft Mills while he’s out of town, taking care of his exotic pets. But when the newly-evicted Ruby arrives to meet her new employer, it turns out Bane is the same guy who got her sick.

Seeing his role in Ruby’s dilemma, Bane offers her a permanent job as his live-in pet sitter until she can get back on her feet. Filled with hilariously awkward encounters and enough sexual tension to heat a New York City block, Shacking Up, from NYT and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting, is sure to keep you laughing and swooning all night long.

4 Stars

There are a handful of authors I indisputably trust and happily jump into their stories without so much as reading the blurb. Helena Hunting is one of the few and she never disappoints. Shacking Up, her latest release, was another delightfully flirty, slow building romance chock full of Hunting’s trademarks ~ A sassy and quirky heroine; a deliciously sexy and broody-hot hero; and a cast of off the wall lovable characters all wrapped up in a amusing storyline that had me chuckling and gushing. Her fans and lovers of the RomCom genre will surely enjoy Ruby and Bane’s love story.

One night, one stranger and an unbelievably soul-shattering kiss sets off a series of life changing events for poor Ruby Scott. A struggling aspiring actress, who’s recently jobless and homeless, she is down on her luck and desperate. Despite coming from a wealthy family, Ruby is determined to make it all on her own and not surrender to daddy’s demands. A temporary solution to her many problems leads her to a pet sitting job for the sexy ex-rugby player, now globe–trotting hotel tycoon, Bancroft “Bane” Mills ~ the mystery man behind the kiss and the owner of the cutest ferret and tarantula ever.

I just love a slow burning romance where the couple takes their time, starting off as friends and then working their relationship into something so much more. These two made for an adorable couple. From their comical banter to their incredibly thick sexual tension, this was an enjoyable lighthearted and steamy read for me.  Bane was my favorite type of hero… soft spoken, passionate, sincere and most of all patient (he needed to be dealing with the often times exasperating Ruby). He was the polar opposite of the bold, headstrong and animated Ruby. Bane was all sorts of sexy and incredibly swoon worthy. His character really made this read for me.

"First, I'm going to fuck you, then I'm going to love you."

A standalone novel told in alternating POV’s, Shacking Up was a good mix of heat and laughter, but not overly emotional. Fun and quick read that would leave you smiling. As always, looking forward to more from this author.
