Blog Tour: Game Changer (New York Kings #1) by Collette West @Collette_West

Title: Game Changer
Series: New York Kings #1
Author: Collette West
Genre: Sports Romance (18+)
Published: July 15, 2014
Young, rich, and unaware of how seriously hot he is, Brooks Davison is tearing it up as the latest shortstop for the New York Kings, despite his tendency to blush whenever girls scream his name.
When a health scare forces his best friend, Kyle Roberts, off the team, no one can stomach the thought of replacing him, especially so close to the playoffs.
Until Kyle's sister, Sasha, steps in, convincing management to let her take his place. The idea of signing the first female player in Major League history proves too tempting for the Kings to resist.
Nevertheless, Brooks doesn't want any part of it. Sasha is Kyle's little sister, not some sideshow.
Yet when Kyle takes a turn for the worse, Brooks promises to do everything in his power to help Sasha win a championship for him. Because there's no way he's letting either of them down. Not now, not ever.

I'm in a fitful kind of sleep, one arm tossed over my face, one leg hanging off the bed, when I hear a rapping at my door.
My heart starts to pound. What if it's some demented stalker fan? I pull the covers up to my chin, determined to wait it out. But when it comes again, my curiosity gets the better of me and I inch slowly off the bed. Going stealthily step by step, I take a deep breath and look through the peephole.
I gasp when I see Brooks standing there.
My heart goes from a dull pounding to full-on somersault mode. I run my hands through my hair. I must look a wreck. But why should I care?
Because he's pacing outside my room in the middle of the night.
He knocks again, and I unfasten the chain and twist the lock before I change my mind. His feet are bare, and he’s wearing nothing but a faded Pac Man shirt and his boxers. He shouldn't be out here looking like he just rolled out of bed, but he is.
The way his eyes are roaming across my body makes me conscious of the fact that I'm only wearing a pair of itty-bitty shorts and a flimsy tank. I cross my ankles and fold my arms around myself in an attempt to bolster my courage.
"Don't," he whispers, stepping across the threshold. His hands encircle my wrists, gently pulling them away from my body. "You're too beautiful to cover yourself up." He presses the door closed with the back of his foot, extinguishing whatever light was streaming in from the hallway.
Now we're alone together in the darkness of my room, and I'm kind of glad he can't read my face. I'm too conflicted. I don't know what to do. I don't know why he's here. But if I'm being honest, I’m glad that he is. He's finally making the effort to reach out to me instead of leaving me in the barren wasteland I've been living in. Oh, how I’ve missed basking in the warmth of his smile.
“What are you doing here?” I ask, feeling the heat of his body against mine.
“Apologizin’,” he says in that sexy twang of his, drawing out every syllable.

I really enjoyed this sweet romance. For me though this was a first that I enjoyed the sports aspects and game play as much as the love story. There was a very enthusiastic and energetic feel to the dynamics of the team relationship and actual game play. I found myself enjoying baseball. Brooks and Sasha were so sweet together. I adore best friends sister romances especially when the hero won't give up. Brooks couldn't get Sasha off his mind from a year ago and he stole my heart when I found out he'd not even thought of another girl after their innocent yet memorable night. These two had to fight through a lot of obstacles to find their HEA. I rooted for them the whole way but more than that I wanted Sasha to get her brother Kyle back in his spot healthy and whole. The camaraderie was heartwarming and other characters really drew my attention. Even though the steam in the book was on the low side the story held my attention and that is most important.
4 stars all the way and out of the park.

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven. Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. She is the author of the New York Kings series which includes: GAME CHANGER, GAME ON, PERFECT GAME, INSIDE GAME and GAME WINNER and the Stockton Beavers series which includes: SINGLE.

Griffin Storm wasn’t prone to violence, but when someone takes what Griffin holds dear, the world as he knows it is gone.
Retaliation, revenge and rage fuels him. His MC, The Uncertain Saint’s, do their best to offer support, but Griffin is beyond redemption. He’ll do what he has to do. Kill who he has to kill.
He doesn’t care if that means he dies. If it gets him what he wants, then it’s worth it.
He fakes it all until the night he walks into a sex shop for batteries and lays eyes on a woman that will change his life.
Lenore makes him think past tomorrow. Makes him want to see just what the future might bring.
But his life’s a dangerous one built around pain and deception, and not for the faint of heart.
He won’t give up the past, not until he’s done what he promised to do.
And if that means she’s not there when the dust settles, he’ll risk it.
Lenore, though, won’t give up on him. She’ll fix him, whether he wants her to or not.

“Come on, Doogan,” I urged, giving his collar a tug.
Doogan didn’t budge, which was why I had a front row seat as a man sailed over the railing of Mr. Marshall’s porch, and landed about ten feet away from where I was standing.
“Oh, my God,” I breathed.
I didn’t move, though, because the man was suddenly surrounded.
Men in leather were everywhere…but the one man that held my attention was stomping down the porch steps and heading straight to the man on the ground.
Griffin, the man who’d bought batteries from me just two days ago, was well and truly pissed.
When his eyes swung to me, I didn’t know what to do.
Should I run?
Stay where I was?
Question after question barreled through my mind, leaving me shaking in fear…and something else I wasn’t ready to admit to just yet.
“Go home,” he ordered.
I blinked, looking to my left and right to be sure he was talking to me.
Since I didn’t see anyone else around me, I decided he was talking to me, but I just couldn’t get my legs to cooperate out of fear.
Not to mention that I would have to walk through the lot of them to get to my house.
When I didn’t move fast enough, he issued the order again, only this time it was biting.
“Go. Home,” he snapped.
I turned on my heel and started walking, coming to a sudden stop when Doogan still refused to move.
“Mother of God,” I whispered.  “Come on Doog,” I whispered frantically.  “Let’s go.”
He did move, just not in the correct direction.
No, he walked straight up to Griffin and licked his hand, a hand that was stuck out, not in invitation to approach, but instead to stop the dog from getting too close to him.
“Can’t you control your fuckin’ dog?” He grated out angrily.
Tears were stinging my eyes, because, by that point, I had the attention of not just Griffin, but the whole freakin’ lot of them.
My heart was beating frantically in my chest as they watched me, and I just knew that if I didn’t get the hell out of there I’d get the hell beaten out of me…or worse.
“Where do you live?”  Griffin asked, taking a hold of Doogan’s leash.
It slipped from my hands, and I watched in helpless horror as it did.
And what did Doogan do?
He freakin’ followed him!
“Umm,” I whispered.  “Three duplexes down from here.”
“Be back,” Griffin said as he took my hand in his free one and started to walk me back to my house.
The men returned their stares on the man they were circling, and I glanced over my shoulder just in time to see one of the big ones kick the poor guy on the ground next to his feet.
He didn’t say a word, and neither did I.
I was too scared.
What if he beat the shit out of me?
Raped me?
What if…
“I’m not going to hurt you,” Griffin growled, interrupting my inner diatribe.
“I know,” I lied.
He snorted.  “Stop shaking.  I said I wouldn’t harm you.  I’m a cop.”
Yeah, but good cops didn’t beat the shit out of people in the dark of night.

This series started off with a bang. Griffin and Lenore were a riot together. From their initial meeting which had me in stitches to their passionate journey through ups and downs I was hooked.
Lani changed things up quite a bit with this new cast of characters. While she kept true to the spirit she keeps in all her books ..loyal characters and suspenseful plots..this one had an edge. These heroes are going to come very close to the line of right and wrong but you'll love them even more for it.
I was seriously holding on tight to my kindle wondering what Griffin would do next. But one thing that kept me smiling was the crazy and funny banter between these two. It wasn't all smiles and jokes though. Oh my Griffin.
This deeply intriguing hero had demons and it looks like all of these gruff yet deeply enigmatic men of the Uncertain Saints will have their past battles to wage.
For Griffin it was tragedy that no person should have to suffer. Lenore along with some batteries shined light into his life in more ways than he expected. While there were times Griffin played the martyr, Lenore didn't stand by and take it. Which makes all the difference for me in any book where there is what I call "pushing away" .. This feisty heroine fought for her man. She didn't chase him..she laid BAIT.. and well when it was time she caught HIM forever.

Staying loyal and true to each other through it they fought their fight till the final bell and the victory was a beautiful life.

I'm curious to see all the ways Lani will heal these broken men and the women to provide the best medicine. Love ..

Lies
Mig’s wife is a bitch.
How else do you describe a woman that lies, cheats and steals to get what she wants?
That’s exactly what happens when she traps him into a marriage he wants nothing to do with, saddling him with a kid that he knows doesn’t deserve to be in a world like his.
He’s doing a pretty bang-up job at ignoring everything but his responsibilities as a DEA officer and a member of The Uncertain Saints MC.
Then his neighbor knocks on his door, and everything he thought he knew is blown out the window.
Deceit
Annie teaches Mig that not every woman is out to get him.
Her love for Mig stretches past what’s appropriate for two friends, and Annie soon straddles that invisible boundary between appropriate and inappropriate.
Annie’s not a cheater, though.
When she tries to say goodbye, Mig won’t let her leave, and soon the tiny town of Uncertain blows up with the news of Annie and Mig’s innocent friendship.
Betrayal
Matters of the heart are foreign to Mig, and it takes Annie being gutted for him to see the wrong he’s done.
He waits too long, though, and Annie’s heart is broken.
She wants it all, or she wants nothing. She can’t take anymore half-hearted attempts at being just friends.
The heart wants what it wants, and it doesn’t take long for Mig to realize that.
But just when Mig finally has it all in the palm of his hand, his life is ripped to shreds by a new player in the game, and it takes all of Annie’s love and devotion, as well as help from the men of The Uncertain Saint’s MC, to put Mig back together again.
