Synopsis

Twenty-five-year-old Sgt. Gray Phillips is at a crossroads in his life: stay in the Marine Corps or get out and learn to be a civilian? He’s got forty-five days of leave to make up his mind but the people in his life aren’t making the decision any easier. His dad wants him to get out; his grandfather wants him to stay in. And his growing feelings for Sam Anderson are wreaking havoc with his heart…and his mind. He believes relationships get ruined when a Marine goes on deployment. So now he’s got an even harder decision to make: take a chance on Sam or leave love behind and give his all to the Marines.

Twenty-two year old Samantha Anderson lost her husband to an IED in Afghanistan just two months after their vows. Two years later, Sam is full of regrets—that she didn't move with her husband to Alaska; that she allowed her friends to drift away; that she hasn't taken many chances in life. Now, she's met Gray and taking a risk on this Marine could be her one opportunity to feel alive and in love again. But how can she risk her heart on another military man who could share the same tragic fate as her husband?

Note: Although these books are part of a series, they do not need to be read in order

Wow just wow, what a freaking rush. I loved everything about this story and I am just in a total "unraveled" state right now.
Gray and Sam met in an explosion of passion and had one of the hottest first meetings I think I've ever read about in a book. Gray took the dirty talker award in every way and I couldn't get enough of his filthy mouth. So many times he shocked me breathless but I wanted more and more.
"Tell me," he demanded again. "I'll get you off.” Rubbing the heel of one hand directly against my pubic bone, his other hand pulled at my hair so he could leave a trail of wet hot kisses along my throat. "You tell me what you think about when you touch yourself and I promise, I will bring you off and it will be good.”
The romance built in this book and the love between these two grew so strong that I felt like I knew them personally and wanted to just watch them ride off into the sunset together having a wedding and lots of babies. Just happy feelings all the way through. I am always in love with I read Jen's books and this one knocked it out the park.

“Unraveled" is a sweet love story about a widowed, lonely girl falling for a broken hearted, befuddled Marine.

Samantha, “Sam”, is utterly lonesome. Loosing her husband, a soldier in the US Armed Forces, at such a young age left Sam stuck in a life better suited for an elderly woman.  When Will passed away, Sam’s world remained frozen in time. Aside from dealing with her despair, she was shouldered with guilt, heartache, emptiness, and a grieving mother-in-law.  It was too much for her to bear, until one evening she caught sight of a handsome Marine on leave.

Gray, a Marine unsure if his future should continue on the same course of serving his country, or make a new life for him self as a civilian. In order to sort himself out, he takes an extended leave, hoping to find the answers he is searching for. Instead, he finds the furthest thing his heart desired…Sam. And when they meet, sparks skyrocket…Until Gray quickly learns about Will.

Sam and Gray are the perfect dysfunctional couple. Sam is ready to start living again, yet is finding it hard to let go of her life with Will.  Gray is struggling with both deciding about his future and moving on from a failed relationship scarred by infidelities.  Of course, his unfounded fears led him to do something incredibly stupid, losing Sam’s trust – but it was fun seeing how he overcame his ridiculousness in order to win back Sam’s heart.

Unraveled is a quick romantic read written in dual POV’s. I would have liked more interaction and dialogue between Sam and Gray as opposed to their inner thoughts.  Their courtship seemed a bit rushed, but I enjoyed their romance and witnessing them fall in love.

I am a huge fan of the Woodlands series. I love that Jen can so easily twist emotion, humour and steam into her books without it feeling she is trying too hard or without any of the components feeling like they are lacking.

But as much as I love this series and the guys in it I have to say that this one is probably my least favourite of the 3 and I don't know if it was just that I maybe wasn't in the mood for it or if there was just something small that was missing. But I didn't feel this book.

That isn't to say I didn't enjoy it or that I am not stalking her blog to see when the next book is coming out, just that I put the book down and didn't really care. I think maybe there was too much of the everyday mediocre and not enough of the heart stopping drama or sweep me off my feet romance or take my breath away lust and for me that's why I read.

Gray was a marine with a crisis of faith and Sam was a widow who's emotions were finally coming out of deep freeze after losing her husband. Together that made the perfect couple and I loved that they both fought for what they wanted and never lost faith.

As always the secondary characters were great and I really look forward to Finn's story next.

His tongue and mouth left mine to leave a hot, wet path from my mouth, across my jaw line, and down to my neck. My leg lifted of its own accord and he took it as a sign to hitch me up higher until both my legs either dangled off the floor or wrapped around him. I chose to wrap my legs around him and was rewarded with a thick hard column pressing into my sex. We both groaned at the contact and I could feel his sound against my neck. The reverberations sent minor shocks throughout my nervous system. Holding me up against the wall, he began thrusting against me rhythmically, every impact of his hips making me hotter and wetter than I remembered I could get. I gripped him tighter with my legs and dug my hands into his hair, using every bit of his body as leverage. He held me up with ease, as if I were a feather. One hand was under my right butt cheek and the other was exploring my left side, pulling out my T-shirt, only to find the tank underneath. Needing his mouth back, I tugged on his hair and he took the hint immediately. He fastened his lips over mine and we devoured each other, still rubbing our lower bodies against each other as the bass from the dance floor pounded the floor boards. Whimpering, I begged in moans and small cries for more. A familiar but almost forgotten tension was winding its way from between my legs outward. All thoughts of storage rooms and hallways and strangers were lost in a swirl of bright lights that were bursting behind my eyelids. “I got you, baby,” he growled against my mouth. “Just let go.” And so I did. I closed my eyes and let those long dormant feelings wash over me, spreading from the inside of my legs to the nerve endings in my toes and fingertips and the very top of my head. All the while, he kept grinding and grinding and grinding against me, whispering in my ear how I was the hottest thing he’d ever held, how he couldn’t wait to taste, how he’d die if he couldn’t be inside me tonight.
