Review and Excerpt Tour ~ ROUGH RIDE a Chaos Novella by Kristen Ashley @KristenAshley68 @InkSlingerPR

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley

comes a new story in her Chaos series…

Informing to Chaos on their rival club—her man’s club, Bounty—Rosalie knows the stakes. And she pays them when her man, who she was hoping to scare straight, finds out she’s betrayed him and he delivers her to his brothers to mete out their form of justice.
But really, Rosie has long been denying that, as she drifted away from her Bounty, she’s been falling in love with Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh, a Chaos brother. Snap is the biker-boy-next door with the snowy blue eyes, quiet confidence and sweet disposition who was supposed to keep her safe…and fell down on that job.
For Snapper, it’s always been Rosalie, from the first time he saw her at the Chaos Compound. He’s just been waiting for a clear shot. But he didn’t want to get it after his Rosie was left bleeding, beat down and broken by Bounty on a cement warehouse floor.
With Rosalie a casualty of an ongoing war, Snapper has to guide her to trust him, take a shot with him, build a them…
And fold his woman firmly in the family that is Chaos.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

I'm back at the compound to spend some much needed time with my favorite MC boys and biker babes ~ the Chaos crew. It's been a while since visiting Ride, and I sorely missed these brothers of the cut and their sexy badass Alpha ways. Fascinated with these characters since reading Motorcycle Man, each steamy novel within this spin-off series was gritty, intense, and passion-filled. The story told in Rough Ride was no different. Once again Kristen Ashley fed my never-ending addiction for her romances with another emotional tale, this time featuring two minor characters we've met before and whose stories I've longed for ~ Snapper and Rosalie.

Rosalie "Rosie" Holloway had a complicated history with Chaos. Before putting herself on the line as their informant, providing information on (her now ex) Throttle's MC, Rosie first appeared in Own the Wind as Shy Cage's ex-girlfriend. Even though their time together was short, and Shy abruptly dumping Rosalie led to his beautiful life with Tabby, a part of me felt genuinely sorry for how she was left shattered. I never resented or faulted Rosie for being involved with Shy, as she was a victim of circumstances; I just wanted to know this woman's story and see her find happiness. My wishes for Rosie finally came true in this novella, as Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh proved to be worthy of her heart by the tenderly mending all of her wounds. The cherry on top ~ there was no friction between any of these characters due to their past connections, and I was relieved. For me, this story was about discovering the real Rosalie, experiencing her pain, the long road to healing, and seeing her relationship with Snapper blossom to true love. I relished every moment of their slow-burning, heartfelt journey.

A sweet and soft-spoken woman who had the unfortunate knack of hitching her wagon on the wrong star, Rosalie's story tugged at my heartstrings.  She was a lost soul ~ mourning the loss of her dad while searching for the 'forever love' her parents shared, led her to find only heartache and brutality. The abuse she endured, mentally and physically, gutted me. Her luck changed for the better when without choice she became a part of Chaos. That's one of the things I adore most about these bikers; how they all value the bonds of brotherhood by protecting and caring for their extended family. Tack and his crew embraced Rosalie, kept her safe within their arms, in the most touching way. But it was Snapper's fierce love, patience, and persistence that finally put an end to Rosie's rough ride.

Loving her from afar for so long, he gently made his way into her heart and life when finally getting the chance. And while earning her trust and affections, Snapper managed to become a perfect hero I truly adored.

I loved all things Snapper. He was an incredibly sexy biker badass ~ possessive, controlling and edgy ~ but in a remarkably calm and subdued way. The depths of his love and patience when dealing with Rosie, guarding her heart and giving her the time she needed, was moving. However, don't let his easy-going demeanor fool you. As mellow as his character was, in times of trouble, Snapper unleashed a fury like no other. Proving he would do anything and everything to protect Rosie and the club family.

A shorter, fast-paced read jam-packed with so much KA goodness, this novella delivered and satisfied my Chaos craving. Although considered a standalone, I do recommend reading all the books in this series, to appreciate Snapper and Rosalie's passionate romance and to understand their history. I was thrilled to see all of my favorites MC characters, as well as revisiting some old Rock Chick friends hanging out in Fortnums and Zip's Gun Emporium. And the epilogue...holy moly, was it EXPLOSIVE! Angst-filled and leaving me gripping my kindle with my head spinning, I was conjuring up all sorts of plot theories and scenarios. The stage is set here for future books, and I cannot wait until the next installment ~ Wild Like the Wind.

“We got it now. You’re good. Gonna take care of you.”
No they weren’t.
He wasn’t.
No one was going to take care of me.
But me.
Not anymore.
They were supposed to do that before.
And now I was on a cement floor, beat to hell.
But I was going to be.
Good that was.
Yes, I was going to be.
Finally.
And it was going to be me that made me that too.
I turned my face into Snap’s cut as an indication he shouldn’t stroke my hair anymore, as a way to tell him to get the heck away from me, to leave me to the ambulance, to leave me alone, to get out of my hair, out of there, out of my life.
But the fabric snagged my swollen nose and a whimper slid from me.
“Baby,” he whispered, feeling close, seemingly all around me, “just hang tight. Don’t move. Help will be here soon.”
Help would be there soon.
I’d be in an ambulance.
Then I’d be in a hospital.
While there, I’d talk to the police.
Eventually, I’d go home and live in fear of what my boyfriend’s motorcycle club would do to me after I pressed charges against them for beating the crap out of me.
What could be worse than this?
I didn’t know. Trailer

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing's changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
